Without a doubt with all the devices we use everyday; we are putting too much stress on our aging outdated power grid. As a result power outages are becoming a norm, not just occurring because of bad weather and storms. Clearly we need to be ready for these situations. So I would like to share some information about your best portable power solutions. Along with being eco-friendly these portable power stations have a place for many non-emergency uses too!!
Especially if you love the great outdoors. Whether hopping on your motorcycle for a weekend trip. Or camping in a secluded area with no electricity; with these light weight portable power stations you can go anywhere!!
Best Portable Power Solutions
While searching for a more reliable power source for our fifth wheel to “dry camp”; I soon discovered that some new technologies had passed me by!! Admittedly that is not hard to do, LOL. But the new lithium iron phosphate battery is very impressive. Also known as LiFePO4 batteries, they come with a 10 year warranty. And have additional accessories available such as a solar panel and inverter. So basically you can have power anywhere.
Differing from Lithium-Ion batteries (which we know are a fire hazard). With LiFePO4 batteries they will not overheat, this is a huge improvement over other batteries. Along with having a greater power capacity and shelf life. So for any portable power solutions they offer:
- Batteries
- Cables
- Chargers/Accessories
- Inverters
- Solar panels (portable)
Another point is now Tesla is implementing lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries in their standard range vehicles. They will continue to use nickel-cobalt-aluminum batteries for long range vehicles. Clearly this shows me the science is ever evolving to produce long lasting batteries. And currently this is the way to go!! Below is just a little history on battery evolution.
History of batteries
At this time the “birth of the battery” is being given to an unknown scientist/inventor from Iraq. As a 2,200-year-old clay jar (battery) was found near Baghdad, Iraq. And is currently believed to be the oldest known electric battery in existence. Also referred to as the Babylon Battery.
Following, back in 1799, Italian physicist Alessandro Volta created the first battery. By stacking alternating layers of zinc, brine-soaked cloth and silver. This stack arrangement, called a voltaic pile, was not the first device to create electricity. But it was the first to emit a lasting, steady current. Clearly trying to improve upon his discovery Volta then started using copper in this “stack”. Which was a vast improvement and for Volta’s efforts; Napoleon bestowed upon him the Title of Count in 1800.
Because science and technology are ever evolving. Of course we have seen many improvements upon batteries. Even though lead acid batteries are still popular; they are not feasible for computers, cell phones etc. So enter M. Stanley Whittingham whom first brought up the idea of a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. And this was in 1970. With his devotion to work out how to make this possible; he eventually would share the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.https://www.youtube.com/embed/EoKIiJdYIJo?feature=oembed

Above all it is so much better to have a power solution for when you need it. Even if you do not encounter an emergency situation you will find so many uses for any portable power station. Of course preppers will see the advantage to upgrading to this option with a 10 year warranty. Along with any boater, traveler, camper or RVer!! Even a day trip to the beach!! Or an excursion to Napa Valley!!
